Mahon spins stories in God The Stupid gleaned from his experiences with local television news rooms, porn show outreaches as the porn pastor for XXXchurch, AA meetings, relationships with crack addicts, gay porn stars, television and film personalities, his three adopted special needs children, Sicilian wife Diane and famous American church leaders.

God The Stupid is a mix of raw and honest talk about faith in God and the realities of living like a modern day disciple.

Along the way J.R. coined the term “God the stupid.”

“Christians make God stupid when we decide we can live this life without Him. We make Him stupid when we don’t listen or act on His will,” says Mahon, who made God stupid for years.

J.R. takes the spiritual training wheels off a relationship with God and runs through the gauntlet of faith issues. Like, why people doubt and never tell, why we turn our back on God in favor of “self-preservation,” and does having faith in God mean living like a freak?
